Description
This particular lineart was provided by the lovely artist, *FalconFan. It is of Han Solo and Princess Leia's elder son (turned evil), Darth Caedus. I must say, I never really liked this character shift in the books, but coloring him provided some nice therapy for me.
The original lineart can be found here: [link]
This is the most detailed work I've done on one of *FalconFan's pieces before. Normally I let her gorgeous shading do the majority of the work, but I felt like playing last night and this morning, so I'll walk you through the steps. His face, hair, and lights on his wrist device were colored by setting a layer on top of the drawing and putting it on "Color". The red background was colored with a maroon set on "Overlay". Next came the metal--the chain of his cape, the rim of the chair and the wrist device. These were colored gray with a pattern overlay to make it look more metallic. His shirt and cape were colored also with a pattern overlay to give it the feel of heavy cloth, which due to the pattern overlay I used made it teal. Since that's not the color of his clothes, I did another layer on top of that to make them black. On top of that was another layer for the leather of his gloves and chair, and his shiny armor plating. This was achieved by coloring over the beautiful shading already there with black set on "Overlay". I flattened all of that, duplicated the layer and set it on "Multiply" with a lowered opacity to make it darker. Added in a selective color layer, an exclusion layer, and another selective color layer and I was done.
Overall, I think this used twelve layers and took under two hours to do in Photoshop CS. I hope you like it.
